
July 26, 2010 marks the 20th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), one of the most comprehensive civil rights laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of physical or mental disability.
Our Center is planning a weeklong celebration to highlight and increase public knowledge of the advancements in equality, accessibility, and independence of persons with disabilities in all aspects of life.
Everyone’s invited!
Monday: A signing of a Declaration by City Mayors, commemorating the event will take place and the keynote speaker will be Ken Reid from the Utah Center for Assistive Technology. TIME: 11:00 AM–At Old Historic County Courthouse (51 S University Ave., Provo). Anniversary cake will be served!
Tuesday: Merchants, in compliance with the ADA, will display a Silver Ribbon in their establishments to show their involvement and commitment to help people with disabilities. Individuals that would want to support this event, can pick-up a silver awareness ribbon at the Center - 491N Freedom Blvd., Provo (After July 20th)
Wednesday: Art & Craft Exhibition (July 23-30) by artists with disabilities will be on display at the Provo City Center Building, located at 351 W Center Street, Provo. Come by and enjoy!
Thursday: PICNIC DAY!!! We will have our Annual Appreciation BBQ in the Senior Center Pavilion at the Orem City Center Park (300 E Center St, Orem) from 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM. State and local government official have been invited to attend. Please RSVP with Veronica at (801) 373-5044 by July 23rd!
Friday: MOVIE DAY!!! Join us at the Provo City Library, room #201 from 2:00 –5:00 PM. A free movie, popcorn and refreshments….what a deal!!!
